Childhood literacy is one of the world’s most important asset. It is also one of the assets that many people choose to make charitable donations to. If you are looking for a unique charitable cause that combines childhood literacy with animals then look no further. The Reading with Rover program is a charitable cause that combines these two factors.
The Reading with Rover program is a charitable program that is aimed at the ability to help child develop their literacy skills in a safe environment through the use of trained dogs. The program takes “Rover” to various local places and allows children to sit and read out loud to Rover. This is believed to develop the child’s reading skills and allow them to gain a confidence in reading that they might not have had before.
Each dog that works with the children has been carefully trained and put through a number of courses in order to make them ready for the responsibility of working with children.
A study was recently released that stated that children with reading difficulties were able to overcome them or work through them by reading to trained guide dogs for a half hour once a week. It allowed them to gain the confidence in reading that reading to themselves or a loved one might not have. As every child loves hanging out with animals the guide dog is a perfect prop to help them read.
The Reading with Rover program is a program that is only developed for the Washington state area. However, other areas are quickly picking up on the concept of children reading to guide dogs and providing the service at schools and local libraries.
If you wish to help a child learn to love reading and work through any reading problems they may have with the help of their friend Rover, consider donating to Reading with Rover.
