What Can I Donate?

Those of us who feel the urge to donate, often sit back and wonder what to donate, time, money, clothes, school supplies and so on.  What you decide to give for the benefit of others should have a personal meaning for you, the tax deductions aside, this is an opportunity to broaden your horizons as a human being.  When choosing what to donate, you will also need to consider what you have to donate, your ability to donate and who to donate too.  The options are nearly endless.

  • You can donate your time.  If you do not have much in the way of money or “things” to donate, there are many charities looking for time donations.  The local homeless shelters are always in need of volunteers.  When Volunteering for a shelter, you may be asked to do things like, cooking, cleaning, tutoring and even talking to the homeless.  This is the most rewarding options, because you got to see who you are helping rather than donating to a company.
  • Donating money to those in need can be an excellent way to give.  Most organizations are run completely on donations and grants.  The money can go towards the running of the charities website to feeding a child displaced by tsunami.  In any case, you will be able to write the donation off in order to get a tax deduction the following year.
  • Donating things like clothing, toys and hygiene products is another method of giving that people find rewarding.  Why?  Because you know that someone is going to actually use the item you choose to donate.  It is a very fulfilling way to give to a charitable organization.

No matter what you choose to donate, each method of donation and what you choose to donate, can make you feel like you have done a good deed.  Helping those in need is great way to feel better about yourself and give back to your community, country and even mankind.
